A cardiovascular surgeon, Anton Matasov, has come to Mariupol from Kharkiv. A young doctor planned to work in the military hospital for several years, but in the result he became one of the members of new Cardiovascular center. Now the specialist does not imagine my future without Mariupol.

Anton was born in Izium city in Kharkiv region. The family was not connected with medicine. The wish to become a doctor appeared in his childhood by accident: ‘I remember that the program about cardio surgeon was shown on TV. I was really interested and I decided that I want to save human lives’.

Anton saved the interest to the medicine through the educational process at school. That is why, there were no doubts where to study in the 9th form. He entered medical institute in Izium secondary medical school.

After the end of education he was working in the hospital as a male nurse. But the dream to become a surgeon made him go ahead. That is why he decided to continue his education in Kharkiv National Medical University.

In 2017, being the intern, Anton Matasov wanted to go to work in the military hospital in Mariupol. The young specialist wanted to get invaluable development for a doctor – to work near military operations.

‘I thought that there is a military situation in Mariupol. But there is a calm and peaceful life in the city. Moreover, everything is developing and changing to the better side. The military hospital had been transformed. The Cardiovascular center was planned to be opened’, Anton said.

He was given a warm reception in the team and the doctor decided to stay in the city joining the team of the new center. He continued education in the field of vascular surgery.

The young specialist began to rent a room in the dormitory. Last year Mariupol city council gave them a rent-free flat: ‘The question with flats is always one of the determining. That is why I appreciate the city authorities for support. This is a big motivation for young teachers to stay in the city and take part in its development’.

At present, Anton Matasov graduated from internship and is a corporate employee of the department of vascular surgery. There are more than 1000 of assisted surgeries behind him. Now he is taking part in difficult surgeries, there is a surgery of vascular repair of carotid arteries.

‘It is a difficult operation that is done not in every regional center. Such kind of surgeries were impossible in Mariupol before. Now, due to the new equipment, it became possible’, a young brother tells about success.

Anton Matasov tells that municipality pays a significant attention to the medicine. The cardiovascular center has a modern equipment, comfortable conditions both for employees and patients. That is the reason why Anton does not want to go to another city. He likes the dynamics of the development both the cardiovascular center and the city. He likes going to the sea is free time but the work takes much time. The surgeries are held for more than 6 hours.

‘The surgeon needs to be responsible and understand that it will never be easy. There is a fear at the beginning that you will not cope with it but as time passes  you overcome them in spite of the difficulties and challenges. The main thing is not to give up. Then everything will be good,’ Anton Matasov said.
