The Mayor has checked the overhaul of the road on Mira Avenue, from Torgova Street to Grecheska Street. The project was implemented last year. The total cost is about UAH 32 million. There are 4,000 tons of asphalt concrete and 8,000 square meters of the tiles. New traffic lights have been installed.

‘The main task is to carry out comprehensive repairs of roads and sidewalks. Our focus is on both passengers and drivers. The main thing is to create maximum safety on our roads. It is impossible without modern traffic light objects,’
Vadym Boichenko stressed.

The Mayor said that an investment program for three years had been developed earlier. It is planned to completely replace traffic lights by the end of 2022. Vasily Klat, director of the transport and communications department, said that 99 traffic light facilities had been transferred to the city's balance from Donbass-Inform Resource.

‘The new traffic lights are LED, with minimal power consumption. They should be able to change the brightness at night. It is also important to be able to change the burning time depending on the traffic,’ he stressed.

Such traffic lights are already working at the intersection of Mira Avenue and Kharlampievska Street. Four video cameras are installed here. They read the traffic flow. Thus, if there is heavy traffic on Mira Avenue, the red light stays longer and vice versa.

‘LED traffic lights allow us to reduce energy costs by 60% at a single facility. In total, this allows us to save about UAH 100 thousand a month,’ Dmitry Chuchmay, director of Mariupolavtodor said.

He added that this year it is planned to equip new traffic lights at emergency sites. In particular, in June the company is preparing to start installing a traffic light facility at the intersection of Kuprina and Troitska streets.

Also in Mariupol the strategy of repair of roads and sidewalks is being continued to be realized. All roads were divided into categories: the first (main avenues and highways), the second (secondary) and the third category (intra-quarter).

Every year the volume of work grows. If in 2016 the volume of the laid asphalt concrete mix made 17 thousand tons, it is planned about 35 this year.

‘Repairs on Mira Avenue were especially important. This is the central highway of the city with a lot of car traffic. Therefore, the main goal was to create a quality, European coverage. This is also important for the city's economy. Changing the projects, we develop infrastructure,’
Vadym Boichenko noted.
