After that, law enforcement officers conducted security exercises in educational institutions.

The inspectors of the patrol police conducted an open lesson on the topic ‘Behavior in crowded places of a large number of people’ for students of 7 and 9 grades. They also talked about how a person behaves during a panic and how to get out of the crowd.

‘School Police Officer’ project has begun its work since last September. To date, the program has covered half of Mariupol schools. We, together with the educational institution, choose a topic and our officers come once every two or three weeks and communicate with the children. As a result of the project, we want the police to become not just uniformed people for children, but friends,’ Yevgeny Ivanchenko, a public relations inspector at the Patrol Police Office in Donetsk Region said.

After the lesson the school held exercises. According to a legend, a group of hooligans tried to enter the school building. The guard saw this in the camera and informed the director. A command had to press the “panic button”. After 3-4 minutes the police arrived at the scene. All hooligans were detained.

‘Within the ‘Safe School’ project, almost all educational institutions in Mariupol are equipped with surveillance cameras and ‘panic buttons’. When a security threat to children occurs, school staff press a button, and the police quickly arrives at the scene. This project is a part of the city’s Safe City program,’ Grigory Berezun, a director of the department for security and anti-corruption in the City Council said.

The director of school No. 42 said that she fully supported the initiative of the city. These projects help ensure the safety of children. According to her, surveillance cameras have been installed at the school for over a year.
