The grand opera Νερo has been staged on the territory of the Azov ship-repairing yard. A unique project was made for Startup Gogolfest in Mariupol. The director of the musical-theatrical show was Vlad Troitsky.
Only 500 lucky men could get directly to the ship-repairing yard. All the others could watch the performance on a big screen installed in the City Garden. A kind of proem to the opera was the ‘ballet of cranes’.
It was planned by the organizers that five port cranes would perform a synchronous dance telling a kind of love story. Live music helped to experience those stories. The workers of shipyard operated the cranes.
‘Our task was to make poetry out of the daily work of these beautiful women who work here. We show the love story to our work, to the sea, to the sky, to life,’ Waldemar Kluzko, one of the organizers said.
The main action took place in the dock. Kiev and Mariupol actors were involved in the production. Light, music by composers Roman Grigoriv and Ilya Razumeiko and choreography created a unique effect. The most frightening moment was the flooding of the dock.
There was no one-line story in the opera. According to Vlad Troitskiy, the main thing is a sensual plot. ‘We first came to this plant in the summer. Then the music was prepared. Physically, we were preparing the opera for the last three days. Its main meaning is purification and faith,’ the stage director said.
