Festive events, dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine, have started in the morning. Mayor Vadym Boichenko together with the governor of the Donetsk region Pavlo Kyrylenko greeted Mariupol residents on the holiday.
Festive events with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were broadcast live on the Theater Square. After that, the Mayor and the governor laid flowers to the monument to the Liberators in Freedom Square. Vadym Boichenko and Pavlo Kyrylenko congratulated Mariupol residents during the flash mob.
‘It is a holiday for each of us, each community and city. Independence is a symbol of unity, freedom and strength of the Ukrainian people. 30 years is just the beginning. This is a time when there are still many accomplishments and victories ahead. I am sure that bright events are still waiting for our country on the way to its development, as well as our Mariupol,’ Mayor Vadym Boichenko said.
He appreciated the representatives of law enforcement agencies and students-winners of international competitions. In turn, Pavlo Kyrylenko noted that independence reminds that our strength is in unity.
‘We have been building our independent Ukraine for 30 years. Today, it is difficult to imagine what cultural, self-conscious development would be like if we did not have a nation-state. Therefore, I appreciate all those who developed our state and defended it,’ Pavlo Kyrylenko said.
He handed over gratitude from the regional state administration to the military and representatives of public organizations. The Commander of the Joint Forces, Olexandr Pavlyuk, expressed confidence that the struggle for an independent and united Ukraine continues. The main thing in it is not weapons, but people who stand for democratic values.
After the award ceremony, everybody who was present watched a large-scale flash mob. The youth of the city, musical bands, orchestras - 600 participants - united in a choir and sang famous Ukrainian songs during the years of independent Ukraine.
