A festival dedicated to the Day of Bastille is held in Mariupol for the first time. The guest of honor is Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France in Ukraine Isabel Dumont. A highlight of the events was her performance in ‘Renaissance’ chamber orchestra.

Even during the rehearsal, she said that she had previously studied music but she is not a professional musician. She can not cope with the role of a soloist but she has been playing with orchestras for 25 years.

Before the concert, the Ambassador of France communicated with the audience in three languages - French, Ukrainian and Russian in her welcoming speech. She noted that in 2015, having taken the position of the Ambassador, she made her first visit to Mariupol.

According to her, today it is a historic date - for the first time since the Day of Independence of Ukraine, France celebrates its national holiday in Mariupol. Isabelle Dumont thanked everyone who worked on the preparation and organization of this holiday.

‘My presence in Mariupol is a sign of solidarity and friendship. This is a symbol of the fact that we can do even more together,’ the Ambassador stressed.

In turn, the mayor of the city Vadim Boichenko spoke about the support of French government to Mariupol. In particular, he noted the position of Isabelle Dumont, her role in the development of our city and thanked for the cooperation.

‘We had a rare chance to enjoy beautiful French compositions performed by the Ambassador of France in Ukraine Isabel Dumont and our musicians. The language of music is perfect. It is the language of the heart and soul. It is understandable to everyone. And we will hear today what France is,’
Vadim Boichenko said.

A cellist-diplomat performed the works of French composers such as ‘Elegy’ by Gabriel Forey, ‘Dance of Death’ by Saint-Saens and others. The spectators thanked the orchestra for a nice evening with a storm of ovation, especially they were inspired by French Ambassador.
