An extraordinary session of the Executive Committee in ‘Molodiozhnyi’ house of culture has been held. The topic is ecology of Mariupol. At the event, a project was presented to create a Green Council and a media center in the city which should become platforms for the development of a Sustainable Green Development Strategy.

We must make our city better through the dialogue and joint practical solutions. We must form a platform for communication and search for solutions. We can achieve our goals and a sustainable green development through the constructive dialogue with certain proposals’,
the City Mayor Vadim Boichenko said.

Green Council should become such kind of place. According to Vaagn Mnatsakanyan, the head of the environmental, energy management and labor protection department, the project’s goal is to consolidate the community around environmental issues.

‘They will discuss and suggest the ways to solve environmental problems here, in free access, in open and transparent conditions. Council members will consider issues of environmental monitoring, environmental education, initiatives of industrial enterprises and the public’, he said.

The Green Council is planned to be created in several stages: at the initial stage, applications will be collected from those who want to become project participants, then, through the online survey on the website of the city council, they will select 25 candidates who will present their projects. The best experts will be elected as members of the board.

In order to bring up topical issues for public discussion, explain and form a constructive dialogue, a media center will be created.

During the Executive Committee, a senior manager of Metinvest Holding LLC Alexander Filonenko and General Director of Azovstal PJSC Enver Tskitishvili presented the developed online maps of the modernization of production capacities of enterprises, which reflect environmental measures aimed at reducing pollutant emissions.
