Sessions of the city council

It was told by the City Mayor Vadim Boichenko after the XXXII  session of Mariupol City Council of the VII convocation. The French government has considered the possibility of concessional lending for a comprehensive water supply and sanitation project in Mariupol. Until October, a feasibility study will be prepared, after which a final decision will be made on the allocation of project financing.

Vadim Boichenko said that the problem of water supply in Mariupol has been acute for many years. More than two years they are searching for solutions of the situation. Various options for water supply were taken starting  from desalination of sea water to laying a water conduit from Novaya Kakhovka.

In the framework of decentralization and the agreement on partnership relations between France and Ukraine, new opportunities have opened up. And thanks to the Ambassador of France to Ukraine  Isabel Dumont  the city was able to get acquainted with the experience of the state company of France which has more than 900 successfully implemented projects on water supply of various facilities. They are ready to help from the moment of designing and its realization and also they are ready to manage the process together or to accompany the project and train the personnel.

The project implies the installation of water intake and water treatment on the Kalchik and Kalmius rivers. Debit water is enough to ensure Mariupol and the region as a whole.

‘The Ministry of Finance of France considered the possibility of attracting a soft loan for water supply, wastewater and sewage treatment projects in Mariupol. The French government gives investments with a grant component of 20-30%. A preferential loan involves a low interest rate and the transfer of French technology and engineering solutions. Thus, a pilot project will appear in Mariupol. This will be an example for other cities’,
the mayor of Mariupol said.

As a result of numerous negotiations, Mariupol was transferred to the next stage - the preparation of a feasibility study. That is, they accepted the application of Mariupol for investments in the issue of water supply and sanitation. The mayor invited all the indifferent to participate in the formation of a feasibility study.

‘In October, the investment committee will meet that will take the decision of financing the project’,
Vadim Boichenko stressed.
