Genetic diseases, oncology, tragic cases and hopeless situations: since the beginning of the year, the commission on the provision of material assistance from the city budget has positively considered 75 complaints.

Commission members gathered for a meeting to study in detail each case and make difficult decisions.

It is worth noting that at the last session of the city council deputies voted for changes in the provision on the allocation of material assistance from the city budget. Now the boundary amount for district administrations has been increased from UAH 5,000 to 8,000 and it is possible to re-apply to the district administrations with the appropriate conclusion of the health department. ‘Innovations in the situation will allow more citizens to get the necessary funds,’ Vladimir Yakovenko, a deputy of the city council said.

Many documents have been filed to reimburse the costs of treating children. A 12-year-old boy with a very rare disease will be reimbursed from the city budget for UAH 30 000. And the kid, who urgently needs a hearing aid, will be allocated UAH 50 000.

After reviewing applications related to the treatment of children, the commission proceeded to appeals from oncologically sick Mariupol residents. Each case was commented on by Svetlana Makarova, director of the health department, so that those present could gain insight and understand medical terms in more detail.
