In continuation of the arrangements, Vadim Boichenko arrived to France to take part in the French-Polish-Ukrainian Conference on Cooperation of Local Self-Government. The conference is organized by the Regional Council of Côte d'Armor.

For two days the participants of the conference will have discussed the state of cooperation schemes between local authorities of three countries, the needs of local authorities of Ukraine for exchange and cooperation, as well as get acquainted with examples of successful practice and prospects for further cooperation.

Among the speakers there was a Mayor of Mariupol, the Head of BETEN International Jean Roche, the Head of SYVEDAC Olivier Paz, the Deputy Head of SYVEDAC Patrice Germain, the Deputy Mayor of Fontenay-sous-Bois on international relations Michel Tabanu, the Head of the French Association of Rural Mayors Clea Rouire.

The right of the first performance in the panel discussion was given to the Mayor of Mariupol Vadim Boichenko.

‘We live in a competition for the minds of people. We must create opportunities for young people to choose our city for life. And opportunities are not only work and a decent salary but it is a choice, infrastructure, leisure and ecology. And the last one is a problem today for Mariupol. So today we are here. France has become a friend of our city and we will gratefully accept your expertise. We strive to develop on the best European examples’,
Vadim Boichenko stressed during the speech.

The Head of SYVEDAC Olivier Paz noted that his company is pleased with the cooperation with Mariupol. According to him, our city is the second Ukrainian city after Cherkassy where cooperation is planned: ‘We saw a great desire and potential in Mariupol. We are ready to share our experience and expertise with Mariupol’.

According to the Head of BETEN International, Jean Roche, today there is an opportunity to build a direct partnership of French and Ukrainian cities as well as French and Ukrainian regions. BETEN International conducts many projects in Ukraine. 4 of them are key. ‘The project’ Renovation of Mariupol’ is one of the most complex and strategic. For us it is a great challenge and opportunity to participate in the project of reconversion, renovation of an industrial city,’ Jean Rocher stressed.

It is worth noting that France also has cities that were able to successfully accept the same challenges that are now facing Mariupol. One example is the city of Le Havre which has gone through renovation from an industrial to a postindustrial state. Mariupol could build an effective cooperation with the city of Bordeaux which made a leap from the industrial state and turned to face the sea, facing a steady green development. An example can also be the region of New Aquitaine, which carried out the renovation of the sea coast with a length of 20 km. All these regions are ready to share their experience with Mariupol and BETEN International is ready to help in every possible way and contribute to the development of Mariupol.
