Today the delegation from Mariupol in charge of the City Mayor Vadim Boichenko has met  the Mayor of Gdansk, his deputies and the chairman of the city council. The goal is to study the experience of European colleagues starting from managing a housing stock to attracting international investment.

The representatives of our delegation were shown the council meeting and the process of taking  important decisions. The floor is given exclusively to the members of the council - today they are representatives of two parties. In addition, a system of financial penalties for improper performance of duties was developed (if they did not come to the commission or did not take part in the voting). They say that these measures have increased discipline.

In having a meeting, Mariupol delegation was told about the communal and economic policy of Gdansk, social and spatial policy, the development program, educational reform, sorting and recycling of garbage etc. The construction of housing and an integrated approach to the energy modernization of buildings were mentioned as well. Thus, more than 1000 flats had been built in Gdansk for 4 years.

As the Mayor of Gdansk Pavel Adamovich admiited, Mariupol is a progressive city that should continue moving forward.

‘When it is time, there will be competition between the cities. We need to be ready for this,’Pavel Adamovich said.

There were also interesting questions concerning the development of architecture, providing of public services and utilities, urban solutions, financing projects and search of external investors.

We have come to learn the possibilities that Gdansk has. The way to get financial resources and implement a number of projects. Mariupol and Gdansk are connected by a similar history, geography and infrastructure. We are open, ready to learn, create, develop and implement modern approaches
