The City Mayor Vadim Boichenko has met with a graduate of technical lyceum Yekaterina Malkina. A girl has had her own research on polyethylene utilization that has brought her fame all over the world. Yekaterina will go to get education to Canada in August. The city will pay a part of money for education abroad.

Yekaterina Malkina is actively studying chemistry and biology from the 8th grade. And in the ninth grade she decided to move to a new level and began to engage in science. Her parents and her mentor Vyacheslav Ponomarchuk help her in it. The girl found a special kind of larvas that digest polyethylene.

‘We are proud that such a talented child lives in our Mariupol. We want Yekaterina after the training to return to Mariupol and take part in the work for the sake of the future of our beautiful city. All innovations are made for young people,’
the mayor Vadim Boichenko noted.

The study of Yekaterina Malkina led her to all-Ukrainian and world recognition. She took the second place at the Intel Eco-Ukraine Olympiad. She became a prize-winner of the Olympiads and participant of forums in the Netherlands, the USA and Brazil.

‘I am working on the fact that the larvas of some beetles digest high-density polyethylene. The larvas are crushed and in their stomaches both fermentation and the action of certain strains of bacteria occur. Now we are studying all this in order to develop bio-utilization, where either bacteria or a certain chemical composition or any substance will participate. Many scientists are working on it,’ Yekaterina Malkina says.
In August, the girl will go to the Canadian city Victoria for two years. She will receive a Bachelor's degree there. 90% of the funds for training Mariupol women will be paid by Canada and the remaining 10% will be provided by the city.

‘It is very pleasant that there are state programs that allow you to study abroad. We are not indifferent to the future of our youth, so we also want to help Yekaterina with her studies. We will be there and we will help you. I want the youth to see the meaning of development in Mariupol,’
the mayor stressed.
